Mammoth Highway is open for residents of Mammoth Creek and Tommy Creek to return home.

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – Fire authorities continue to make progress with containing the Mammoth Fire, Sunday.
According to Utah Wildfire, firefighters have managed to make significant progress expanding containment to the south and north perimeter.
Firefighters say they have focused heavily on preventing soil erosion by building water bars on fire lines placed in steep terrain.
As crews continue to assess the fire, the Mammoth Creek Village remains evacuated.

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – The Mammoth Fire burning in southern Utah is now 40% contained.
The fire, sparked by lightning over the weekend, has reached 709 acres. It caused the Mammoth Creek Village to be evacuated earlier this week.
Utah Fire Info rpeorts crews increased fire containment by continuing to mop up and use water from hose lays to extinguish heat near the fire perimeter.
The Mammoth Highway-FH50 remains closed to through access.
Mammoth Fire now 14% contained

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – The 709-acre Mammoth Fire in southern Utah is now 14% contained.
The fire, sparked by lightning, is burning through grass, ponderosa pines, and douglas firs one mile south of Mammoth, according to the Utah Fire Info.
As of Wednesday, fire crews and dozers continue direct suppression tactics, securing fire line, and mopping up along the fire perimeter to safeguard Mammoth Creek Village.
This is just one of a handful of fires crews are battling across Utah.
Mammoth Fire, 0% contained, reaches 709 acres

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – A wildfire burning in Southern Utah has reached 709 acres and remains at 0% contained four days after officials say it was sparked by lightning.
The fire, one mile south of Mammoth, is burning through grass, ponderosa pines, and douglas firs, according to the Utah Fire Info.
On Monday, amid red flag conditions, crews “made good progress with direct suppression tactics, building, and securing fire line along the fire perimeter to safeguard Mammoth Creek Village.”
Helicopters dropped buckets of water on scattered heat within the perimeter and engines were staged throughout the subdivision for structure protection.
On Tuesday, with red flag conditions still active and expected to last through Wednesday, crews are expected to continue direct suppression, mopping up, and securing the fire line with the support of helicopters dropping water on areas of intense heat.
Fire officials say the Mammoth Fire will likely continue to creep throughout Tuesday afternoon.
As of Tuesday, Mammoth Creek Village remains evacuated and Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect for the Dixie National Forest.
In total, 240 personnel, 21 engines, one dozer, and five helicopters are assisting in battling the blaze.
Mammoth fire burns through 699 acres, 0% contained

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – Officials say the Mammoth fire continues to burn in Southern Utah and the flames have grown by another hundred acres.
On June 7, the United States Department of Agriculture states that the Mammoth fire has grown to 699 acres and it has yet to be contained.
Firefighters state that multiple agencies are on scene attempting to douse the inferno. Resources on the fire include 20 engines, seven single engine air tankers, two large air tankers, three air attack aircraft, four helicopters, one bulldozer, three hotshot crews, 1-type two IA crews, three squads, and two water tenders.
“Wildland fire crews will continue work on the fire edge to protect the Wildland Urban Interface of Mammoth Creek Village. Fire resources were able to protect structures successfully in the Mammoth Creek Village using crews, engines, and dozers with support from aviation assets including air tankers and helicopters,” shares the department. “The fire continues to burn through Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir to the southeast. Most of Southern Utah is experiencing Red Flag conditions, which are expected to continue through June 8 with wind gusts of 20 mph expected today.”
According to officials, since the eruption, the Mammoth Creek Village has been evacuated and fire managers are requesting the public’s assistance by avoiding the area to allow fire resources to access the fire. FEMA has also authorized the use of federal funds to help with the firefighting costs.
“Glad @fema has approved the state’s request for assistance in Garfield County. We must ramp up coordination with state & local leaders on wildfire mitigation and prevention efforts. Praying for the safety of the firefighters who are working to get the #MammothFire under control,” adds Utah Senator Mitt Romney.
The cause remains under investigation.

Original Story: Mammoth fire continues to burn in Southern Utah

SOUTHERN UTAH (ABC4) – Fire continues to burn through Ponderosa pine and Douglas Fir, near Southern Utah Sunday.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the fire sparked on June 5 around 11:55 a.m., within the jurisdiction of the Dixie National Forest.
The inferno now deemed as the Mammoth fire, is currently burning on 556 acres of land and is threatening structures.
Officials say most of Southern Utah is experiencing red flag conditions with wind gusts of 35 mph which makes containing the fire difficult.
“Fire managers continue to monitor structures in the immediate vicinity and are continuing to protect the utility corridor,” they add.
According to officials, since the eruption, the Mammoth Creek Village has been evacuated and fire managers are requesting the public’s assistance by avoiding the area to allow fire resources to access the fire.
The cause remains under investigation.
