SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando announced he plans to retire following the 2019 season.
“It’s time for me to step away & start my next adventure,” said Rimando in a letter to fans shared on Twitter Friday.
Rimando is regarded as possibly the best goalkeeper in MLS history. Rimando is the is all-time MLS leader in games (485), saves (1,630) and shutouts (144).
He’s a five-time MLS All-Star with 22 appearances with the United States national team.
Rimando made his MLS debut in 2000 with the Miami Fusion and he joined Real Salt Lake in 2007.
RSL opens the 2019 season on Saturday, March 2 against the Houston Dynamo.
