SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – Georges Niang tremendous Summer League play has paid off big time.
Niang signed a multi-year deal with the Utah Jazz Friday night, with the first year reportedly guaranteed. Niang is expected to be on the Jazz opening day roster.
Undrafted out of Iowa State, Niang played last year with the Salt Lake City Stars, where he averaged 22 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Niang has continued his solid play in the 2018 Summer League, In 7 games this summer, averaging 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 7 games, while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range.
Niang, a 6-8 forward, could take the minutes played by Jonas Jerebko, who was waived by the Jazz last week.
He finished his career at Iowa State ranking first in all-time games played (138) and second in all-time points scored (2,228) and when his tenure ended he was the only player in the nation and one of just four players since 1994-95 to total 2,000 points, 700 rebounds and 400 assists as a collegian.
