SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – A team-high 17 points for Georges Niang and double-double by Tony Bradley led the Utah Jazz to a 92-76 victory over San Antonio while Memphis rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 29 points, including eight three-pointers, as the Grizzlies cruised by Atlanta 103-88 on Day One of the Utah Jazz Summer League.
The four-team, six-game Utah Jazz Summer League presented by America First Credit Union, University of Utah Health and the Utah Sports Commission, continues with a round-robin doubleheader on Tuesday, July 3. Games are scheduled at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Jazz held off a fourth-quarter push from the Spurs with a balanced attack. Five players scored in double figures with Kelan Martin and Stanton Kidd each adding 13. Jazz draft pick Grayson Allen had 11 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in his first game. Bradley had 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. The Jazz bolted to a 17-point halftime lead behind 14 points for Niang and nine from Kendrick Ray.
Derrick White led the Spurs with 22 points and Chimezie Metu had 10.
The opening game of the Utah Jazz Summer League featured the NBA debuts of Jackson, the No. 4 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft from Michigan State, and No. 5 selection Trae Young of Oklahoma. Jackson’s impressive shooting led the Grizzlies who hit 13-of-25 three pointers. Kobi Simmons added 21 points followed by Ivan Rabb with 14 and Jevon Carter with 10.
Young finished with 16 points on 4-of-20 shooting while Tyler Dorsey paced the Hawks with 18 points. Rookies Omari Spellman and Jaylen Adams each chipped in 11. Jock Landale had a team-high nine rebounds. Atlanta attempted 40 three-pointers, making nine.
