Donovan Mitchell surprises Kearns High students

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The Kearns High students had no idea what was coming.

After getting called to a special assembly, Kearns High students with GPA’s of 3.0 or higher were greeted by Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, who along with his mother, handed out free backpacks and T-shirts.

Mitchell also posed for pictures and even signed a few shoes, encouraging the students to keep their grades up so they can achieve their dreams.

One Kearns High student was especially blown away by the Jazz star. Emmanuel Andrew is a star on the Cougars basketball team and was thrilled just to meet Mitchell.

“I never thought I’d be in this situation where I got to talk to an NBA player, like a really good player,” Andrew said. “I was blown away. I was like, wow, this dud is really here and I’m talking to him. He shook my hand like five times. It was really amazing. He was in my position at one point, so it really showed me what I can do if I keep working hard at what I’m doing.”
