LEXINGTON, Kent. (ABC4 Sports) – History has repeated itself once again in the Utah-Kentucky rivalry.
Freshman Keldon Johnson scored 24 points, including five 3-pointers in the first half, and No. 19 Kentucky beat Utah 88-61 on Saturday.
The win was Kentucky’s eighth in a row dating back to 1993. Six of those victories came in the NCAA Tournament.
Both Gach scored a career-high 22 points on 8 of 10 shooting for the Utes, but Kentucky closed the game with a 32-14 run to win going away.
Johnson made a career-high six shots from long range on seven attempts as Kentucky made a season-high 12 3-pointers.
Tyler Herro cored 17 points, Stanford transfer Reid Travis added 16 and Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 10 for the Wildcats (8-2), who lost their best 3-point shooter when Quade Green decided to transfer nine games into his sophomore season.
Johnson highlighted the decisive run with four 3-pointers, including three straight, and finished with 15 points in the opening half.
Jayce Johnson had 11 points for the Utes (4-5), who shot 44.4 percent from the field.
Utah next hosts Florida A&M Monday night at the Huntsman Center.
