ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (News4Utah) – If you want to camp at Zion National Park, you’ll need to make a reservation.

Beginning March 1, you’ll need a reservation for Watchman and South campgrounds. Previously, these campgrounds were reservation-only during the park’s peak season from March through October.

South Campground is located ½ mile from the Park’s South Entrance, within walking distance to the Visitor Center and shuttles. Watchman Campground is located ¼ mile from the South Entrance.

The reservation system was put in place to better serve visitors and park staff in terms of efficiencies and trip planning.

“It’s a good change,” said Joe Marciano, Zion National Park spokesperson. “It got to be so bad that visitors were showing up literally minutes after midnight and sitting there for six, seven, eight hours and sometimes we’d have 3 or 400 cars.”

Reservations can be made two weeks prior to arrival and can be made by going to www.recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777.
