World’s smallest baby goes home from the hospital


JAPAN, Tokyo (ABC4 News) — The world’s smallest baby has left Tokyo’s Keio University Hospital weighing just 9.45 ounces which is a little over half a pound. 

After five months on a nutritional management plan, the baby’s weight increased to 7lbs 2oz. He became the world’s smallest healthy baby boy to be sent home. Before the record was held by a baby boy in Germany who weighed 9.67 ounces.  

The average size of a baby born full-term range from 5lbs 11oz to 8lbs 6oz.
