Worker dies in Eureka County mine

News

EUREKA COUNTY, Nevada (ABC4 News) – Multiple agencies are investigating after a McEwen Mine worker was found dead Monday.

Eureka County EMS and the Eureka County Sherriff’s Office responded to the incident at the mine at 9:46 a.m.

Eureka County Sheriff’s Office said Dean V. Pilcher, of Colorado, was found unresponsive in a haul truck at the mine.

Pilcher is an employee of N.A. Degerstrom, a company contracted for McEwen Mining.

Officials said McEwen Emergency Response Team workers were already on scene and actively performing life-saving measures when EMS and ECSO got to the scene, but they were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the manner of death is still under investigation pending autopsy results.

The U.S Mine Safety and Health Administration is carrying out its own investigation into the incident.
