WJPD Looking Into Mysterious Crash

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 UTAH) –  Detectives in West Jordan are looking into a mysterious crash and car fire that happened early Wednesday morning.
Police said around 4 a.m. near 8400 South 1300 West officers found a car completely on fire under a tree.
“They reported to me that there were about 6-foot flames, that the vehicle was fully engulfed and that they couldn’t tell if somebody was inside or not,” said West Jordan Police Officer Scott List.
One officer got out their fire extinguishers to knock down the flames but it didn’t work. The West Jordan Fire Department was seconds behind and were able to put the fire out. Police said the car was headed north on 1300 West.
“For some reason it runs off the right side of the road and crashes straight into a tree,” said Ofc. Link.
Tire tracks, a burned fence and greenery are all that remains. No one was in the car.
“We have not been able to locate a driver or the owner of the vehicle yet,” the officer added.
Part of the reason police said, is because the VIN numbers have been burned off or crushed. Detectives can’t get DNA or fingerprints either.
“If somebody was in the vehicle there is a high likelihood they are injured,” said Ofc. Link.
Officers checked the surrounding area but found no one. Not even a trace of where they headed.
West Jordan Police ask if the public knows anything about this crash to call 801.256.2000.
