UTAH (ABC4) – High school graduation returns to in-person ceremonies in most places as COVID-19 safety restrictions ease. This means caps and gowns will be marching to their long-awaited diplomas in either school auditoriums, football fields, or mass graduation events in arenas.

On May 23, welcome the revival of “normal” Pomp and Circumstances with ABC4’s very own Craig Wirth.

“Well we are entering high school graduation season again, I remember it wasn’t just the ceremony, it was a lot of stuff,” Wirth tells ABC4. “Not everyone wore a cap and gowns in the old days…In fact in 1929, West High said no to cap and gowns, largely a vote from parents.”

“It didn’t last,” he adds.
