WEBER COUNTY (ABC4 News) – Utah fire officials say target shooting is to blame for a new wildland fire burning in Weber County Friday afternoon.

The Bureau of Land Management, Weber Fire District, and other agencies were dispatched to the fire located near Causey Reservoir. The fire was 20 acres when it was first reported, but it quickly grew to cover 100 acres.

Weber officials say no homes are threatened, but nearby residents were told to standby for possible evacuations.

Officials say the fire was started by target shooting on private property.

Earlier in the season, state fire officials closed areas in Utah County to target shooting after several fires were started.
