October is down syndrome awareness month and the Wonderwood Academy is helping raise awareness about the disorder.
Wonderwood says they have teachers that specialize on how down syndrome students can learn best and help each student visualize and remember what is being taught.
They say more students at the academy need support with scholarships.
One example is Garret. He is a participating student with down syndrome. They say he has made great progress in reading, speech and enjoys the social activities the academy provides. His family says they are grateful for the scholarship that allowed him to continue at Wonderwood Academy.
