What you can do to help prevent child abuse in Utah

Today on Midday we were joined by Gwen Knight, School and Community Outreach Administrator for Prevent Child Abuse Utah. Gwen mentioned the blue pinwheels around people’s gardens and landscapes this month. April is officially National Child Abuse Prevention month and the pinwheels are part of PCUA’s program, Pinwheel for Prevention. Individuals can purchase one or many pinwheels for their garden to support PCUA’s goal of educating the community on how to identify, report, and prevent child abuse. To order your own blue pinwheels to support the cause, click HERE.

Most children don’t report sexual abuse.  In fact 88% of adults who were sexually abused as children stated they never reported the abuse. Nationally and in Utah, 1 in 5 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Alongside the Pinwheel for Prevention program, the Promise to Protect campaign is an initiative created by Prevent Child Abuse Utah to encourage parents and caregivers to take a FREE 30-minute online course to learn how to prevent child sexual abuse. Click HERE to take the online course yourself.
