Weber State sets school record with 76-0 victory


OGDEN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – The Weber State football team set a school record by scoring 76 points in a dominating 76-0 season-opening victory over Montana Western.

Stefan Cantwell completed 10 of 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchowns, while seven different Wildcats scored rushing touchdowns.

The previous record was 74 points set in 1965 against Portland State.

Weber State raced out to a 48-0 lead at halftime, and cruised to the win.

“I thought it was a good game,” Weber State coach Jay Hill said. “We did what we were supposed to do.”

David Jones rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Kevin Smith added 61 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. 

Rashid Shaheed, Treshawn Garrett, Clay Moss, Brady May and Cantwell also scored rushing touchdowns in the historic blowout.

The Wildcats defense gave up just 147 yards and seven first downs to Montana Western, an NAIA school.

Weber State now prepares for a trip to Berkeley to face Cal on September 9th.
