WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Lions, tigers and bears, these are just a few of the exciting things showcased at the 2017 Washington County Fair.

Forty-eight finalists competed Saturday for the title of cutest baby. While, there can only be one winner in each group, parents prove, it’s true, beauty is in the eye of the “baby holder.”

“I think she’s going to take home the trophy,” Gilverto Sanchez, father of a contestant.

She’s so cute and she has the cutest hair ever! I’ve never seen a baby her age have hair like that,” Melissa Wyson, mother of a contestant.

Parents, siblings, extended family and friends all showed up to cheer on their favorite baby. All parents have different reasons for entering their child.

“I was in pageants and stuff when I was a little girl and it was so fun growing up seeing the cute little baby trophies and stuff so I just thought it would be fun for her to look back and see that we tried to involve her in things,” said Wyson.

“I’ve entered two of my kids this year just for the fun of it,” Gilverto Sanchez, father of contestant.

During the finals, six babies are left in each age division. The winner receives the coveted first place trophy along with life-long bragging rights.

“I’m pretty sure this will be a life-long, look how cute I am,” said Becky Pepito, mother of first place contestant.
For the Pepito Family, taking home first place has become a family tradition.

“Well, his big brother has a trophy and now he has a trophy,” said Pepito.

What’s it like to have the cutest baby in Washington County?

“It’s fun. It’s lots of fun. We think he’s cute, so it’s fun that lots of the other people think so too!” said Pepito.
“She is so cute. She’s the third one in the family to win this prize and they have all been first places, so whoo hoo,” said Brend Rivich, mother of first place contestant.

Eight babies took home a first-place trophy from the eight different categories that were based on age and gender. The baby competition is a 3-day event with preliminary rounds and judging by Washington County Fair royalty.
