WEST VALLEY CITY (ABC4 Utah) UDOT is warning parents and students about what could be a danger as school begins Wednesday in the Granite District.
The giant Mountain View Corridor Construction project is underway from 5400 South to 4100 South. That happens to be right by Hunter High and Hillside Elementary.
UDOT spokesperson John Gleason says that poses an enticing distraction for the 3500 nearby students. “If you look at all the cool equipment we have out here, heavy machines, trucks, mounds of dirt, everything possible that could attract school age kids. This is no place for kids.”
Just to make sure, UDOT is kicking off a program called “Think Safety.” They will be taking a cleverly produced, short video about the dangers nearby into classrooms and assemblies. You can watch the video and show it to your children on our website.
And Gleason has a broader warning to parents all over the state as school begins. “If you’re a parent that’s dropping off or picking up kids, so many of us are in a hurry we’re rushing to and from and we’re not always focused on driving. That can be disastrous.”
