Utah softball team ranked first in the nation

The women of the Salt Lake Community College Bruin Softball team have racked up 382 runs, 47 home runs and 351 RBI’s in just this season alone; outscoring their opponents 3 –to-1.

The team now ranks number one in the nation. The women will fight to keep that title this weekend as they take on the Golden Eagles of the College of Southern Idaho.
This is an important game, as it will the Scenic West Conference Title and determine who will earn the right to host the Region 18 tournament.

The game will begin with a double-header Friday at 1 p.m. and end in a double-header Saturday at 12 p.m.
The games will take place at Bruin Field on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

But the big game isn’t the only thing happening at SLCC this Friday. The college will officially rededicated Bruin field naming it Norma Carr Field, after the previous Bruins Athletic Director who retired from her post last year after 25 years.

The filed will be upgraded with a new scoreboard and hear a speech from Deneece Huftalin, the president of SLCC.

Norma Carr, the first female athletic director in the state of Utah, will also participate. SLCC added volleyball, baseball, and softball as intercollegiate sports and built new softball and baseball fields during her tenure.

The field dedication will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Norma throwing out the first pitch before the SLCC vs CSI match-up.
