Utah Helps Break 2 Guinness Book of World Records

BRIGHTON, UTAH (ABC4 UTAH) – Utah made it into the record books once again. This time it was the help of Ski Utah. 164 ski and snowboard resorts across the country wanted to record the largest amount of ski and snowboarders learning for the first time.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and what better way to do it than to than have your name on a record. For children like Luke Houser its a big deal, “I get to be in a book.”

For the first time in history the Guinness Book of World Records have recorded thousands of people learning how the ski and learning how to snowboard. The two largest classes were held at 10 a.m. Friday.

Jared Winkler at Brighton Ski Resort said, “I think the rad thing is going to be for the kids and themselves to say they are apart of a Guinness Book of World Record, record.”

Parents like Adam Heckmann who was watching his daughter agree.

“That’s awesome that she was apart of that. That is great for skiing in general. I think it is a great way to get kids going early and have it be a life long sport,” he said.

The adults came to learn also. Some took a ride to the top of the mountain for their lessons.

“It’s fun I mean its great to say that Utah is on the map and this is a great place to learn,” said Paul Marshall the communications director with Ski Utah.

Each person that participated will be getting certificates for breaking both the largest amount of ski and snowboarding lessons.
