SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) – Thanks to the giving hearts of a local business and members of the community, families in need can experience a Christmas miracle.
Last Christmas Domani and Joey Turner got everything on their Santa lists, and then some!
They couldn’t be more grateful to Old Saint Nick. “I think that was really nice, we don’t really need presents next year,” says Joey Turner, the younger of the Turner siblings.
But their Santa isn’t who they think. The Santa Clauses who provided for the Turner family are the owners of 1% Fitness, and their workshop is actually full of healthy meals, not toys.
Tyson William, one of the 1% Fitness co-owners says, “We just wanted to give back to families in need.”
Four years ago they started their Christmas Miracles program, complete with silly videos asking friends, family, and customers to give whatever they could. Their goal is $6 thousand to $9 thousand, and with that money they will help another five to seven families.
Last year, they got an email from Ronnie Turner-Detelj — Domani and Joey’s grandmother. She nominated her son and grandchildren, who had just lost everything.
Joe Turner, Joey and Domani’s father says, “You know you hope for a Christmas miracle, but there was no way I could have replaced 10 years of both of their lives.”
So the 1% Fitness team stepped in, and made that happen.
Joe and Ronnie say they will be forever grateful. One day, the kids will be able to share their gratitude for these real life Santa Clauses as well.
Ronnie Turner-Detelj says, “I kept their Christmas lists so that when there comes the time that they know that santa is around them, rather than the man in the red suit, that they’ll be able to meet them and be able to thank them themselves for what they did for us and for those children.”
1% Fitness is still looking for nominations. If you know of a family in need, or if you would like to donate to the cause, go here.
