SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The rivalry will live on for at least the next six years.

Utah and BYU both agreed to extend their football series through the year 2022, signing a two-year extension on Thursday.

“This game has a great deal of interest throughout the state and both schools worked hard to find dates in 2021 and 2022, even as long-term scheduling has become very difficult,” said Utah athletic director Dr. Chris Hill.

The two schools were already contracted to play for the next four years, but two games were added today. The Utes will travel to Provo on September 11, 2021, while the Cougars will play at Rice-Eccles Stadium on September 3, 2022.

Utah has won six straight games in the rivalry series, including a 20-19 victory in Salt Lake City in September.

Here is the schedule for the next six games of the rivalry:

Sept. 9, 2017, Provo
Nov. 24, 2018, Salt Lake City
Aug. 29, 30 or 31, 2019, Provo
Sept. 3, 4 or 5, 2020, Salt Lake City
Sept. 11, 2021, Provo
Sept. 3, 2022, Salt Lake City
