LEHI, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – There’s a new record tonight for a giant pumpkin in Utah.
Several hundred people waited with anticipation at Thanksgiving Point as they kept weighing giant pumpkins. Then they hoisted the granddaddy of them all onto the scale.
The winning pumpkin weighed in at 1,974 pounds, almost a ton. It is the largest ever grown in Utah.
Matt McConkie, who had the winning pumpkin, told Good4Utah, “The secret is getting a good seed up front and really good soil and that will grow a big pumpkin.” McConkie added, “I started in 2008 and ever since then I’ve just been trying to do better and better every year and try to work harder and learn new things.”
For right now, his pumpkin is the second largest ever recorded in the world
