Franklin County Idaho Sheriff’s Office released the following statement … Sadly we found the body of the missing hiker, Bailand Johnson, in the Cub River. It appears he fell in and drowned. Our hearts are heavy with sympathy for the family and friends. We appreciate the compassion from our community and all the volunteers who showed up and were turned away so they wouldn’t interfere with the Search dogs. We also appreciate our Search and Rescue and Cache County Search and Rescue, the Utah Search and Rescue dogs that assisted and the air support we received both from the military and private citizens.
Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s office have issued a missing persons report after a 19-year-old failed to return from a hiking trip on Thursday.
Deputies were called just before midnight on Thursday by the family of Bailand Johnson.19, of Preston, Idaho. Johnson had taken his small black puppy for a hike in the Cub River area earlier in the afternoon and had not return as expected.
Search and Rescue teams, along with helicopters and search dogs, have been searching for Johnson since 3 a.m Friday morning. Deputies are asking that residents who live along the river to check their property and along the river banks but to avoid entering the water due to temperatures and high flow of the water.
Cub river is a stream that runs along both Franklin County, Idaho and Cache County, Utah.
