SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) — Unified Police are looking for a known gang member with a long criminal history that dates back to 1994.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday a Unified Police sergeant in Taylorsville spotted a stolen SUV.

The sergeant called in his team because he quickly noticed the passenger was 44-year-old James Carter

Police say he is wanted on several warrants and is an alleged known violent gang member.

Detective Kevin Mallory with UPD says, “They kind of followed him in the area while they were putting a plan together and eventually ended up in West Valley. And then we got West Valley units to assist, and then they helped in the pursuit.”

Police officers deployed a spike strip to get the SUV to stop.

Police say the dirver was 33-year-old Jaclyn Allred.

The two jumped out of the SUV and ran according to reports.
Police found Allred in a yard around Beaver Street and Lehi Drive in West Valley City.

Officers say they needed to be cautious with this arrest because of Carter’s past.

“He has been armed in several encounters law enforcement has had with him, so we consider him dangerous,” says Det. Mallory. “If you have information about him or his whereabouts, we would ask that you call the police and give us that information.”

Detectives say if you spot Carter, do not approach him, and to call the police because he may be armed.
