Suspect leads officers on chase in Utah County

SPRINGVILLE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – One suspect is in custody after he led multiple agencies on a high speed chase in Utah County.

At around 12:15, a Utah County patrol car spotted a blue Ford Focus at the mouth of Payson Canyon. It was at that point the suspect, 40-year-old Michael Charles Rankin, fled and a pursuit began.

According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Rankin was driving recklessly, and at one point was going the wrong direction on I-15, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

The pursuit entered Springville where Rankin pulled into a Walmart parking lot. It was at this point that he tried to ram an officer’s vehicle. At least one shot was fired between Rankin and officers, though how many is unknown.

The pursuit then entered Spanish Fork where it ended behind Good Earth Natural Foods at 863 North 700 East. Rankin taken into custody without further incident.
