South Jordan police arrest 3 suspects wanted in multi-state fraud ring

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police in South Jordan arrested three suspects wanted in connection to a multi-state fraud ring after receiving a report of a fraud in progress at Walmart.

According to Lt. Matthew Pennington, South Jordan Police, officers were called to the Walmart located at 3590 W. South Jordan Pkwy. An associate recognized the three individuals as being suspects in theft ring involving the fraudulent use of stolen credit cards and gift cards in Walmart stores across the United States.

Officers were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle and stop them. A search of the vehicle yielded nearly 5,000 gift cards valued at over $215,000, documents state.

Police have identified the suspects as Yu Guangzhou Cheng, 33, Chaohui Chen, 45 and Wenyi Zheng, 42. All three are citizens of China.

They were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Adult Detention center on 10 second-degree felony counts including unlawful acquisition, possession and transfer of financial cards.

The case has been turned over to the Utah Attorney General’s Office for further investigation.
