SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Shireen Ghorbani formally declared her candidacy for Salt Lake County Mayor to voting members of the Utah Democratic Party Central Committee.
“I’ve spent the last year going door to door in Salt Lake County talking to residents about what is important to them,” Ghorbani states. “I was regularly reminded that there’s far more that unites us than divides us. When we work together to find solutions, our communities only get stronger.”
Because the race will be decided by the Democratic Party Central Committee Members, Ghorbani felt it was essential to communicate with them directly. “I felt very strongly that the Central Committee members should know first,” said Ghorbani. “I have not been ‘considering” whether or not to run for county mayor, I knew the minute the results for Ben McAdams were final that I would run.”
“County government is where the rubber meets the road,” Ghorbani continues. “So many of the issues that impact our everyday lives start at a local, county level: access to healthcare, economic growth, affordable housing, keeping our neighborhoods safe and our open spaces open. I want to build on the progress we’ve seen at the county and move forward with new ideas and enthusiasm.”
Ghorbani won 67 percent of Salt Lake County in her 2018 Congressional bid.
