DUCHESNE, Utah (ABC4) – A 70-80-year-old Vernal man is missing in the High Unitas.

Police say Joseph Weyerman was camping near the Chepeta Lake area for about two weeks when he disappeared.

“Weyerman was last heard from on Monday and was scheduled to return home Wednesday night,” said Chief Deputy Travis Tucker.

Weyerman’s family notified police on Thursday that he was missing.

“Searchers on foot and on horseback looked for Weyerman on Friday. They were assisted by a Classic Lifeguard helicopter crew,” Tucker said.

Crews will resume their search Saturday.

“Weyerman is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds, has blue eyes and gray hair. He was last seen wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and a cowboy hat. Authorities believe he is equipped with a backpack, sleeping bag and some food,” Tucker said.
