Rep. Chris Stewart proposes new Utah national park

Top Stories

Utah Representative Chris Stewart is introducing a bill that would create a sixth national park in Utah.

The 100,000 acre proposed park is within one of the units of the modified Grand Staircase-Escalante and would be called the “Escalante Canyons National Park”.

The announcement comes just a day after President Trump signed a proclamation to modify the size of the park. Grand Staircase-Escalante currently covers about 1.8 million acres. It’s being cut to just over one-million acres.

This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as they become available.
