MAPLETON, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- Police in Mapleton confirm the family of four that were found dead were killed in a murder-suicide.

“It is believed that Timothy Griffith shot his wife Jessica, his step daughter Samantha, and his son Alexandre before taking his own life,” a press release said.

Investigators say Griffith used two guns. He used one to shoot his family and another to shoot himself. They say he purchased the guns locally in September.

Detectives are working to find more about the family in hopes of learning more about why this happened.

“Our investigators are currently communicating with family members and associates of all involved in hopes of learning more about why this has taken place. Investigators are continuing to follow up on electronic evidence collected at the scene that will hopefully shed some light on the family dynamic,” police said.

They say this investigation will be ongoing for months.

At this time there are no more developments.
