SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Salt Lake City and West Valley City police are investigating a shooting that happened in the early morning Monday after a vehicle and victim were pulled over.

Police say a 17-year-old male is in stable condition after the shooting in the Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Police tell ABC4 News they are searching for whoever is responsible.

The vehicle was pulled over near Big O Tires at 2830 West and 3500 South in West Valley City.

“They knew someone had been shot or something had happened there,” Sgt. Keith Horrocks said.

Just before 3 a.m. officers responded to the Glendale neighborhood on reports of shots fired. Arriving officers found a handgun, blood, and a bullet casing in the middle of the road, officials said.

About 30 minutes later, West Valley City Police pulled a stolen Lexus over for driving too fast. Officers found the 17-year-old shot in the back seat with three other passengers.

Police are investigating this as possibly gang-related. The other three passengers are detained for questioning and are cooperating. The victims have been upgraded to stable condition, officials add.

The names of everyone involved and their relationship has not been released. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the community.

This is a developing story. We’ll continue to update it as more details become available.
