(UPDATE 9:00 P.M. 1/25/20) SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man is custody after police say he shot a man multiple times in South Salt Lake on Saturday night.

According to a probable cause statement, police responded to the 700 block of West Timbercreek for multiple calls for shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from three gunshot wounds.

Witnesses at the crime scene said they saw the suspect, identified as Austin Charles Hatch, get into a fight with the victim. Hatch allegedly drove to the crime scene to pay money that he owed to the victim. When Hatch made contact with the man, a fight broke out, leading Hatch to pull out a gun and fire 5 shots at the man, hitting him 3 times, a probable cause statement said.

A probable cause statement said that before the shooting took place, Hatch drove a woman, who witnessed the shooting, that he drove her to a friend’s house in the South Salt Lake area. He then allegedly took a handgun out of the glove box of the car and told the victim he had to take care of something.

The woman told police that Hatch called her back 30 minutes later to tell the woman he had been shot in the forearm. The woman said she then met Hatch at a 7 Eleven and took him to a local hospital.

Police obtained a search warrant for Hatch’s home and car and found a revolver handgun with 5 fired rounds in it and another Glock 45 handgun.
