UPDATE: Thursday morning police identified the man that was shot and killed as 34-year-old John Herman Tonga of Midvale.

KEARNS, Utah (ABC4 News)- One man is dead, another injured after a shooting in Kearns Wednesday.

Sgt. Melody Gray with the Unified Police Department said around 7:30 a.m. police were called to the area of 4800 South 4700 West after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene they found a man that had died from an apparent gunshot wound.  

Sgt. Gray said around the same time they got a call of a man with a gunshot wound at a local hospital. She said the two shootings are connected.

“We don’t know what lead to the shooting; We don’t know at this time who did it or why,” Sgt. Gray said.

There was a man who was seen leaving the scene. Sgt. Gray said he is being questioned by police.

There were around six people inside the home, Sgt. Gray said. Investigators are working to gather details.

The man with the gunshot wound is in serious condition.
