WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – An officer is recovering after rolling his patrol car while catching up to a stolen vehicle in West Valley City Saturday night.
Lt. Jeff Conger said the incident happened at about 11 p.m. when an officer was parked at a convenience store on 3100 South 2700 West. The officer ran the plate of a car as it pulled into the store and just after the vehicle left the store, dispatch confirmed the car had been reported stolen.
The officer left the store in an attempt to pull over the stolen vehicle and during the pursuit to catch up with him, another vehicle came out of a subdivision into the path of the officer. The officer swerved out of the way to avoid hitting that car but ended up hitting two parked cars along the side of the road.
The crash caused the officer’s vehicle to roll over once and land on a fire hydrant.
Responding medical personnel said the officer was dazed and banged up a little so they transported him to a local hospital where he is in good condition as of Sunday morning.
Officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle in a subdivision near the area but the suspect had already fled the scene. The vehicle has been taken down for processing by forensics in an effort to find anything that would lead to a suspect.
The officers identity is not being released at this time.
