Man in hospital after shooting at Family Dollar in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – One man is in the hospital and police are still searching for a suspect in a shooting outside a Family Dollar in West Valley City Saturday night. 

Lt. Amy Maurer, West Valley City Police, said police responded to the Family Dollar at 4760 West 4715 South on reports of shots fired shortly after 8:30 p.m.

When they arrived they found a man who had been shot in the Torso. He was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital where he remains in good condition. 

Maurer said they immediately contained the area as K-9 officers indicated the suspect might still be in the area, but the suspect was not found. 

Police believe they might know who the suspect is but have not yet made contact with the individual. 

It is not known what prompted the shooting and police are not certain if it was gang related.
