Holiday weekend gets off to a deadly start

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Just after midnight, Saturday morning, a semi-truck hauling double tankers struck a passenger vehicle. And the driver of the semi appears to have been distracted.

The semi was traveling west on SR 40 near mile post 6 in the right lane. The semi had just crested the top of a hill and did not appear to be traveling very fast. The driver of the semi was distracted with his phone and rear ended a slower moving 1998 Saturn passenger car.


The Saturn was hit and then spun into the left lane of travel where it came to a rest. The female driver was transported by medical helicopter to the U of U medical center in critical condition.


The male passenger was transported to Park City medical center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.


The female driver of the Saturn is 40 years of age and from West Jordan, UT.


The deceased male passenger was identified as Landon B Peatross, 41 years old from Duchesne, UT.
