NEWCASTLE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Five people who were killed in a fiery head-on collision on SR-56 Saturday night near Newcastle have been identified.

Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened at mile marker 33 at 4:30 p.m. when 19-year-old Fernando Ruiz of Cedar City was headed east in a Chevy Suburban and crossed the center line. Ruiz hit a Ford Escape carrying four occupants headed west head-on.

The Escape traveled off the road to the right, rolling on its top, while the Suburban continued straight on the road. As the Suburban came to rest it burst into flames.

The Escape was driven by 58-year-old Jesus Jimenez-Lopez. His three occupants were identified as Lydia Jimenez, 57, Jose Jimenez, 60, and Juan Antonio Jimenez Sanchez, 19.

All occupants in both vehicles died on scene.

It is not known why Ruiz crossed the center line and troopers have not indicated if drugs or alcohol were involved.
