MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) — A celebration of life was held Saturday morning for the Hillcrest High football coach who died Sunday after falling ill just a few days before.

Cazzie Brown was fondly remembered on the same sideline where he coached – but this was not a somber occasion.

“He would want us to celebrate his life versus mourn his passing,” said Will Hawes, Hillcrest High Defensive Coordinator. “It has been a really tough week, last couple of weeks, watching him go through what he did and his decline that happened so rapidly.”

Before Brown became the Huskies Head Coach, he was a longtime assistant at Highland High.

“He always held the kids accountable and everything but they also knew that he would be there and he’d give ’em a hug, toss ’em some candy in the middle of practice if they were having a rough day,” said Aaron Diefel, Highland High Assistant Coach.

“Coach was all about love and we’re going to try to carry on what he taught us as far as being a good community, loving each other, helping each other,” Hawes said. “He was the type of guy that if you couldn’t find it you could call him he would have some type of connection to make it happen.”
