PROVO, Utah (ABC4)-A six-year-old girl died Saturday in an auto-ped accident that left two of her family members in critical condition, said officials from Provo Police Department.
The six-year-old girl was standing with her grandpa, a 64-year-old male, and her cousin, a 5-year-old male, near a parked car on 2900 Block of West Center Street when an 18-year-old male driver drifted off the road and struck the parked vehicle and the three victims.
The victims were transported to Utah Valley where the 6-year-old girl passed away. The 5-year-old boy was life-flighted from Utah Valley Hospital to Primary Children’s Hospital and is in critical condition. The 64-year-old grandfather is also in critical condition.
Police said the driver was driving while drowsy when the accident happened.
“For every driver out there on the road who drives seriously and to remain alert, sober and without distractions so we can prevent tragedies like this,” said Joshua Jennings, Community Resource Officer with Provo Police Department.
The 18-year-old male driver wasn’t arrested. Provo Police didn’t release any further information about the driver.
