DRAPER, Utah (ABC4) – 4,245 people near Draper, Lehi and Riverton didn’t have power for an hour and a half Sunday morning beginning at 10:05 am.
The power came back on for most people around 11:35 pm, but as of 12:18 pm, 652 didn’t have power.
Officials said the outage happened because there was an “equipment failure in a substation.”
“It’s the time of the year when the system is stressed,” said. Tiffany Erickson with Rocky Mountain Power said. “It’s not that too many people were on it there’s just more chance of it breaking down.”
That equipment failure left Draper resident Alyssa Wilson without a way to make her breakfast.
With the power out how am I going to start my day with a nice toasted eggo waffle?? I thought draper was nicer than this :/— awil (@Lyslou1121) July 23, 2017
Saving energy and money is on everyone’s mind, said Erickson. She gave tips on how to keep your power bill down:
- Make sure you’re closing your windows and blinds so heat is not getting out.
- Don’t open your fridge really widely or for long periods of time
- If things are heating up, stay in the shade and drink water
