KEARNS, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Two people are dead after what police are calling gang-related violence Tuesday evening.
Unified Police Department responded to a report of a shooting around 7:30 p.m. Lt. Brian Lohrke says witnesses reported people inside a blue Ford truck were shooting at another person.
The individual was wounded in the shooting. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
As the blue truck was trying to flee the scene, it crashed into a white car in the area of 5200 West 5400 South.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found one seriously injured person inside the blue truck and two people dead in the white car. Police say it’s not clear if the white car was involved in the initial incident or if it happened to driving through the area an inopportune time.
There is possibly one outstanding person who fled from the blue truck, police say. Gang-unit officers searched the area for an additional suspect possibly dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt.
Lt. Lohrke says the gang-related incidents have been escalating over the past few weeks.
“This is getting absolutely ridiculous. I know the citizens here in Kearns are absolutely fed up with it. We’re fed up with it. We’re going to be ramping up our efforts,” said Lohrke.
Police say city leaders plan to hold a community meeting on gang violence at the Kearns High School auditorium Thursday night at 6:30. The public is encouraged to attend.
