OREM, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Timpanogos wasn’t accustomed to playing catch-up, but the Timberwolves proved they can win in any variety of ways.
Casey Hamilton hit a tie-breaking 2-run home run in the 5th inning, as the Timpanogos baseball team won its second straight 4A baseball title with a 9-7 victory over Spanish Fork. The T-Wolves lost just one game all year and ended the season on a 25-game winning streak.
“What a season this has been,” said head coach Kim Nelson, who led his team to its 6th state title overall. “This team has battled all year long.”
Spanish Fork actually jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Timpanogos scored five times in the third inning, highlighted by back-to-back triples by Josh Edmonds and Connor Halford.
Spanish Fork eventually fought back to tie the game at 7, setting up Hamilton’s dramatic home run, his first of the season. Was he saving it for the right occasion?
“We can go with that,” Hamilton said with a smile. “I tried a couple times this year and it didn’t work out so well. I’ve always dreamed about it. Every kid dreams about it in their backyard, hitting it, walking, it just kind of came true for me.”
Cal Beardsley had two hits and pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to earn the victory on the mound.
“We had a great team all year,” Beardsley said. “It’s one of the best teams I’ve ever played on by far. I just love this team, great defense, everyone just did their job.”
Jake Brooksby had three hits and three RBI in the win for Timpanogos, which finished the season with a record of 28-1.
Jaxon Higginson and Brooks Newman each had three hits for the Dons.
