LITTLE ROCK, AR – Severe thunderstorms are expected across Arkansas this afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service says warm and moist air will be in place along with a substantial amount of wind energy and as a cold front approaches, thunderstorms are expected to develop.

Storms that become severe will be capable of producing damaging straight line winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

The NWS says there will also be a lot of moisture available in the storm system which will make strong storms more efficient rainmakers.

One to two inch amounts are possible south of Little Rock.

The Little Rock School District announced on its Facebook page this afternoon that all after school athletic activities (practice and games) have been cancelled due to the potential for severe weather this afternoon.
