Szechuan Sauce is back, and in a big way.
Last October, they brought back a super-limited batch of Szechuan Sauce, but it quickly became apparent not enough was made to meet the expectations of fans. They say they did not anticipate the overnight crowds, the cross-state travel and the amazing curiosity, passion and energy fans showed. The super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t enough to meet the demand. They want to apologize. To fully make amends, they felt it was important to not only bring back much more sauce this time, but to also admit their mistakes, answer questions and give fans access to the story behind the story.
They have worked every day since October to bring back much, much more of the sauce fans have been craving. Starting Monday, February 26, 20 million packets of Szechuan Sauce will be available across all US McDonald’s restaurants with a qualifying purchase, while supplies last (which this time around, they hope is a while).
But they are doing more than simply bringing back the sauce.
They’ve partnered with Studio@Gizmodo and Onion Labs to produce, ‘The Sauce.’ It’s a look into the unbelievable, stranger-than-fiction, saga of Szechuan Sauce. In this fun, three-part series, host Catherine LeClair gets to the bottom of what happened on October 7th, and the people behind the efforts to make things right. The series digs into the pop culture moment that launched the phenomenon: Deadmau5 acquiring a promotional half gallon bottle, the production of 20 million packets, and the many other stories in between. All three episodes are available right now to stream below, and also on all major podcast platforms.
They can’t wait for fans to taste the savory, sweet flavor of Szechuan Sauce, paired with the craveable and delicious Buttermilk Crispy Tenders. They hope ‘The Sauce’ provides you with some answers, and a bit of entertainment from one of the most humbling stories yet.
