Never get hurt on a ladder again!

Utah Success Stories

UTAH COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – A Springville-based company is saving lives through innovation.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 164,000 people a year go to the emergency room for injuries they sustained on ladders, and data shows more than 300 of those people die.

According to Little Giant Ladders, most of those accidents are preventable.

“The reason we get out of bed every day is to help prevent  injuries,” said CEO Ryan Moss.

As one of the largest ladder manufacturers in the country, the corporation climbed to the top by coming up with safe, simple solutions for common hazards of traditional ladders.

“This particular ladder is really one that does it all,” Moss said of Little Giant’s popular Articulating ladder.  “It’s an extension ladder, multiple sizes of an A-frame ladder, its a staircase ladder, and it can also separate into trestles, and you can put a plank across it. This one ladder will replace many, many ladders,” he explained.

The articulating ladders were not always so advanced.  They started as a concept Little Giant Ladder Founder Hal Wing licensed from a German painting contractor back in 1972 — a humble beginning that Wing’s sons say shaped the company’s future.

“He used to say he got very good at selling – he sold his boat, he sold his motor home, he sold his car, and he sold some other things.  It was really rough at the beginning…” Hal’s son, Art Wing recalled.  “We began as an importer and then eventually began manufacturing,” he said.

More than 45 years later, Art and his brother Doug continue to run this family-owned business on their dad’s core principals of hard work, humility and genuine concern for employees.

“If you concentrate on building a business and not the man you won’t achieve, but if you concentrate on the man, you achieve both,” Doug Wing smiled.

“I look forward to coming to work every day because Little Giant makes a difference in helping our customers stay safe,” said Anna Gabriel, an employee.

“One of the things we’ve done to avoid injuries and save lives is to address the… leading causes of ladder accidents. We’ve taken each of those and built products to address those,” Moss said.

Whether it is supporting fighter pilots and astronauts, keeping construction and utility crews safe, or just providing people peace of mind in their own homes, to Little Giant Ladders, every rung, every rivet, and every weld matters, because every person matters.
