Street Fight? Lehi Businesses In Dispute Over Boulevard’s Name

News

LEHI (ABC4 Utah News) –  U2 sang about a place where the streets have no name. Some streets in Lehi have two.

For instance, 2700 North is better known as Cabela’s Boulevard.

The developer that built the giant outdoor retail store requested the name and the Lehi City Council approved. Just like they did for Adobe Way which runs under the software companies offices and for the road leading to I.M. Flash Technologies, Flash Drive….get it?

Yvonne Sparrow lives two houses away from Cabela’s Boulevard. Asked what she thinks about the city naming streets after businesses, she replied,
“I think they bring a lot of revenue in to our area which is needed. It helps everyone. I think if they’re there first they have the right to do it.”

To the east of Yvonne’s home a building under construction at 4205 North Cabela’s Boulevard will be the new home of Entrata, a property management software company that doesn’t want Cabela’s name in their address.

Cameron Boyle, the assistant to Lehi’s City Administrator, explained the dispute to ABC4 Utah News Wednesday.

“As part of their brand they don’t necessarily want to be associated with another business,” Boyle said. “So they’ve come and recommended that that road be renamed at least that portion of the road be renamed and Cabela’s has been part of that conversation as well. They would like that name to stay.”

At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting Lehi’s Mayor Bert Wilson said he sides with Cabela’s and suggested that Entrata create a new street they could name themselves. Yvonne Sparrow is also against a change.

“Leave it alone. We were here first,” Sparrow said. “You moved in to our neighborhood so leave it alone.”

The Lehi City Council has tabled the issue until their next meeting, scheduled for May 10th. Boyle says the Council hopes that Entrata and Cabela’s can work it out themselves in the meantime.
