ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4 News) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the St. George Temple will close later this year for renovations.
The St. George Temple was originally completed in 1877, it was the church’s third temple to be completed and the first in Utah.
The temple will close on November 4, 2019.
Crews will being extensive structural, mechanical, electrical and improve plumbing work. Church officials say the temple is expected to reopen in 2022.
The temple serves church members in southwestern Utah and parts of Nevada and Arizona. Once renovations begin St. George church members nearest temples will be in Cedar City and Las Vegas, Nevada.
