ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Prostitution-related arrests nearly doubled in St. George over this time last year, according to police.
Twenty-nine people have been arrested compared to 17 arrests in 2015.
On Monday, a Las Vegas woman was sent to jail for allegedly operating a massage parlor and trying to sell sex to an undercover St. George police officer.
Court documents state Briyonna Green, 22, posted an ad for escort services online before meeting up with the officer and giving him a massage.
Green was arrested for sexual solicitation, operating a massage parlor with out a license and for having drugs.
“Companies go where the business is and as long as there are clients pursuing services, I think we’ll have the issue,” Capt. Giles said.
While it is unknown if prostitution is happening more often, Capt. Giles said the department shifted focus to address the issue within the city, while working closely with Homeland Security.
“We have to look at it from the standpoint that the majority of these prostitution situations come from circumstances where there is force, fear, intimidation drug use or abuse,” Giles said.
In October, a 15-year-old girl trafficked to Utah from California was discovered by police.
