SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A man arrested in connection with a 1988 cold case was extradited back to Utah.

Michael Ignatius Kufrin was arrested after remains were positively identified as his former girlfriend, Peggy Sue Case.

Case was reported missing out of Spanish Fork in July 1988. She was last seen leaving a party in Payson with Kufrin. At the time, Case and Kufrin lived a house at 80 North 800 east in Spanish Fork.

Kufrin had long been named a person of interest in the case; but Case’s body had never been found and he was never charged.

In May 2017, skeletal remains were found in a cellar behind their old house. The remains were positively identified as Peggy Sue.

With evidence from the original investigation and additional evidence after her remains were found, investigators drafted an arrest warrant for Kufrin. The warrant was approved by a judge and he was taken into custody by detectives in Illinois in July 2017. Kufrin remained in custody in Illinois until Monday when he was extradited back to Utah and booked into the Utah County Jail for murder.
