KANE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Three people have died in a car crash that occurred on Highway 89 in Kane County on Tuesday, March 21.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a southbound white Honda SUV collided head-on with a northbound red Nissan Altima around 5:30 p.m. on US-89 near milepost 41, about 22 miles southeast of Kanab. Officials say the roads at that time were wet and slushy.

A 16-year-old boy and 46-year-old woman in the red Nissan died from their injuries. A 64-year-old woman sitting in the back of the white Honda was pronounced dead at the scene as well.

The driver of the white Honda was flown to a local hospital in critical condition while the condition of the front passenger of the white Honda remains unknown.

Officials say they did not close the freeway, but traffic was restricted for a while.

Initial investigation revealed that the front passenger of the Nissan and the passenger in the back of the Honda did not wear seatbelts.

No impairment was suspected, officials say.
